What happens on a Wednesday
Every Wednesday evening at Lewis Recreation Center. Doors open at 6:30 pm and the tournament starts at 7:00 pm. Entry is $10. Most weeks we run a US Chess rated tournament, and casual games go on alongside it for anyone who would rather just play. The calendar below always has the current schedule.
New to rated chess?
What "rated" means
We report the results to US Chess, and every game moves your official national rating up or down. Your rating follows you to any tournament in the country.
Blitz and quick
Blitz games are the fastest, finishing in minutes. Quick games give you more time to think. Both use clocks, and we'll show you how one works.
Everyone plays
You're paired with players close to your own strength, so your first tournament is competitive rather than discouraging. Nobody is turned away for being new.
Not ready yet?
Come on a Wednesday anyway and play casual games instead, no US Chess membership needed. Or start with a free Friday or Saturday at Barnes & Noble.
